It’s a simple game, really. Toss a grape in the air — not too high, not too low — and hope your teammate makes grape juice.
This is the classic game of grape-tossing, and it’s how Fruita Monument junior Taylor Scofield and team scorekeeper (and Wildcats tennis player) Jacque Soychak kept warm Tuesday during host Fruita’s match against Grand Junction. (For details of GJ’s 7-0, grab an Aug. 29 Sentinel.)
Soychak, who tossed the grapes to Scofield, said Scofield was 3 for 5.
“We’re playing poorly, and it’s good stress-relief playing with these guys … and the lady,” Scofield said.
Scofield said that unfortunately, the grapes were white — not red — and thus the reason for his inability to catch and chomp all five tosses.
“I prefer red,” Scofield said. “The white grape was a little bit elongated, compared to the grapes I normally eat. Reds are more aerodynamic.”
